My 71 1600 Project
This is where things get fun!!  I decided that I wanted to build another 02 almost from the ground up in order to have another car in case I need to do any major repairs or upgrades to my 72. Well, things turned wierd at that point. This car I bought for $200 from a guy in Ventura, then hauled it down to its new home in San Diego. Thanks to Mike Mchenry for turning me on to this 1971 1600!!  Things are going quickly and I'll have more updates and pictures once this project is finished.
This 1970 2002 I bought from a guy in San Diego; total rust bucket!! However it had a lot of things that would work for the 1600 project. New shocks and brakes all around. The entire rear subframe was swapped into the 1600 as were the brakes and struts in order to have bigger brakes in the rear than the typical 1600 brakes. This car has turned out to be a nice donor for many things that the 1600 shell was lacking, such as wiring, wheels and tires, windshield, dash, etc, etc. Unfortunately, this car's final resting place will be a junkyard, too much rust to save it.
The Warzone!!!! -- My backyard
These are some pictures of the 2.0 engine that I will be putting into the 1600. I bought the engine from a guy in Michigan and cleaned, painted and replaced all seals and gaskets. Hopefully she'll keep all the oil inside where it belongs. Better still, I'm hoping that the engine runs well!
Nearing the End!!!
Well, there will be many more pics and advice in this section, however for now I just have these pictures of what the car looks like today. It now runs incredibly well and has somewhat become my daily driver for the time being. I got the body from Mike on 2/23/02 and drove the car for the first time in the beginning of April 2002. Lots of work, but the project cost me under $1000 when all was said and done.
